Settlement Services International (SSI) is a community organisation and social business that supports newcomers and other Australians to achieve their full potential. They work with people with a refugee and asylum-seeking background, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, people with disability, youth and children and more to build capacity and enable them to overcome inequality. SSI is a member of the Australian Network on Disability (AND) which seeks to advance the inclusion of people with disability in the workplace.

About the opportunity
SSI has partnered with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to deliver Local Area Coordination Services in NSW. As a Local Area Coordinator (LAC), SSI supports people aged 7 and over to access the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and other mainstream services in the community.
Local Area Coordination (LAC) Planners are committed to improving the lives of people with disability and will work directly with participants to facilitate choice and control lover the services they receive. The LAC Planner will work with the participant (and where appropriate their family and other informal supports) to determine what reasonable and necessary funded supports and services will assist the participant to achieve their goals. They will gather the relevant information build and develop Participant plans for NDIA approval. The LAC Planner will also work with participants to make changes to their plan through the plan review process which covers scheduled and unscheduled reviews. The LAC Planner, with assistance from ILC Consultants, will support individuals, their families and carers to access mainstream and specialist services in order to meet Participant goals.

About your experience
  • Previous experience as a LAC or working with people with disability, and knowledge of the NDIS would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated time management skills and ability to work with limited supervision whilst managing a variety of tasks and meeting tight deadlines;
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships and liaise across all levels both internally, externally and with people from diverse backgrounds;
  • Awareness and recognition of cultural diversity, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and CALD communities;
  • Ability to speak a community language highly advantageous; and
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours and in a range of locations across areas and regions as required.
